Fayette County Title VI

Title VI refers to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and subsequent legislation, including the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and has the goal of protecting the civil rights of service recipients and ensuring equal access to programs, activities, and services regardless of race, color, or national origin. More specifically, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 states:

“No person in the United States shall on the basis of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Fayette County is subject to Title VI requirements since it is: 1) located in the United States; 2) provides services (e.g., transportation); and 3) periodically receives direct or indirect federal funding or assistance. In addition to self-regulation, compliance is checked by the Federal Highway Administration and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) since transportation funding represents a large amount of the federal assistance received by the County.
