The following information is provided as basic steps and procedures the Department of Building Safety requires for the development of a new accessory / auxiliary structure.

  1. Contact the Planning and Zoning Department for the requirements of your Site Plan. A Site Plan will be required as part of your permit documents.
  2. Contact the Environmental Health Department for details on how to obtain a Septic Permit. A signed approval will be required as part of your permit documents.
  3. Contact the Environmental Management Department for any clearing, grading or other land disturbance work if you plan to do the work prior to the issuance of the building permit. Also, request information regarding Erosion & Sediment Control Plan and Disturbed Acre Fee requirements for your lot.
  4. After all the required steps above are completed move forward with the online permitting portion for permitting and plan review submission online at (www.sagesgov.com/fayettecounty-ga). Building Construction plans will be required as part of your permit documents. Construction will not be allowed until a building permit is approved and issued by the Fayette County Department of Building Safety.

New Septic Tank Installation

Applying for new permit

Requirements are:

  1. Application ( available at the health department or download below )
  2. Soils Scientist report.
    • If the property is in a subdivision, check with the health department to see if soils information is on file.
  3. Site plan.
    • Plan must include the footprint of the house with dimensions, distances to property lines, location of driveway, pool or any other desired feature for the lot (tennis court, detached garage, etc.)
  4. Permitting fee of $275 for residential and $250 for commercial.
    • Fee includes initial inspection of lot, designing the system and final inspection after the system is installed.
  5. Floor Plans of all levels (Complete plans not required). Must be on either letter or legal size paper.

Approval application for swimming pools, additions, accessory structures, and interior finishes.

Requirements:

  1. Plat of property with house and structure drawn (show dimensions of structure along with distance from structure to property lines and existing home).
  2. Floor plans (if needed). Must be on letter or legal-size paper.
  3. Application and fee of $125
