Conservation

Fayette County is one of 16 counties that is part of the Metro North Georgia Water Planning District (MNGWPD) and must comply with their Water Resource Management Plan.  The Plan requires that Fayette County Water System develop an irrigation pricing schedule that recognizes the impact on peak demand from irrigation.

Common Places to Check for Leaks
Leaky faucet A leaky faucet dripping at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water per year.

Home toilet Toilets are silent water wasters and can usually be fixed by adjusting or replacing the flapper. Replace old models with WaterSense versions.

Home washing machine If you see water on the floor under your washing machine, contact a repair person. You may need to replace your drain hose.

Bathroom shower head Tub spouts and shower heads leaking at 10 drips per minute can waste hundreds of gallons of water per year.

Leaky outdoor faucet Make sure outdoor faucets are closed when not in use. If you find a leaky faucet, change the washer (after closing the shut-off valve).

SprinklerBroken or leaky sprinkler heads can waste up to 20 gallons every time you water. Regularly inspect your irrigation system to prevent water waste.

Irrigation Principals for Landscapes

In partnership with the Water System, the Fayette County Extension office has produced this video educating customers on efficient landscape irrigation to maintain healthy yards and avoid common mistakes in outdoor watering.
