Materials Not Accepted At the Transfer Station

What materials are not accepted at the Transfer Station?

Hazerdous Materials Including

  • Antifreeze
  • Batteries
  • Cooking Oils
  • Herbicides & Pesticides
  • Railroad Ties
  • Construction Debris

Appliances Containing Freon Including:

  • Refrigerators
  • Water Coolers
  • Air Conditioners
  • Mini Fridges
  • Freezers
  • Dehumidifiers

Can I throw away an engine or motor?

Yes. All fuels and lubricants must be drained from engines and motors prior to disposal at the Transfer Station

Can I throw away paint?

Yes and no. You can dispose of water-based, latex paint after all the paint has dried. Allow the paint to air dry or mix the paint with an absorbent, such as cat litter, to allow it to dry/harden.

Paints Not Accepted Include

  • Lacquer
  • Thinners
  • Acid Stains
  • Lubricants
  • Oil-based
  • Containers without labels

Where can I take materials not accepted at the Transfer Station?

You can dispose of hard to recycle and hazardous materials such as paints, herbicides, and large appliances at CHaRM (the Center for Hard to Recycle Material). You can also visit Earth911’s website for an extensive list of recycling locations based on your specific waste item.
