The alignment of McBride Road will be changed so the East and West sides of McBride Road intersect Antioch Road across from each other and as close to 90° as possible. Some new Right-of-Way and pavement will be required for this adjustment. Abandoned roadbeds will be converted to green space. The second major improvement associated with this project is the addition of turn lanes on Antioch and McBride Roads. Drainage improvements will also be included in this project.
The project will improve safety and reduce the congestion and wait time at the intersection. Safety is improved by eliminating the offset for the East and West sides of McBride Road. Congestion and wait time will be shortened via incorporation of turn lanes.
This project does not include a traffic signal. Traffic on McBride Road will continue to be controlled with stop signs. The speed limit will remain as posted on both of these roads.
Due to the additional pavement needed for the alignment of McBride Road, additional right-of-way and grading easements will be needed from fifteen properties. All other road improvements will occur within the existing right-of-way.
This project has been awarded to Southeastern Site Development. The project construction will be funded completely with Fayette County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars. This is a concept-level cost estimate. The SPLOST was approved by the County citizens in 2003 and is in effect from April 2004 to March 2010. Construction is scheduled to begin in January of 2010.
