Fayette County participates in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) National Flood Insurance Program, which ensures that federally backed flood insurance is available for all buildings within the County, whether they are in a floodplain or not.
In addition, Fayette County participates in FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS). This is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum National Flood Insurance Program requirements. As a result, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from community actions meeting the three goals of CRS: (1) reduce flood losses; (2) facilitate accurate insurance rating; and (3) promote the awareness of flood insurance. Additional information is available at the FEMA CRS website.
Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and the Flood Insurance Study for Fayette County are available for review in the Fayette County Environmental Management Office and the Fayette County Library. Environmental Management also have future floodplain information for the larger streams and elevation certificates. Below are the elevation certificates currently on file. Please contact the Environmental Management Department at 770-305-5410 or emd@fayettecountyga.gov or visit us in Suite 203 for specific information about your property.
