Fayette County Transportation S.P.L.O.S.T. East Fayetteville By-Pass Phase I & Phase II
The East Fayetteville Bypass is a proposed thoroughfare designed to reduce traffic congestion within the City of Fayetteville by providing an alternative north/south route across the East side of the County. The proposed project begins at the intersection of South Jeff Davis Road/North Bridge Road and County Line Road, runs in a northerly direction and terminates at the intersection of Corinth Road and S.R. 85. Where possible the bypass follows existing roads, including County Line and Corinth Roads. The specific alignment is still being finalized.
Much of 2008 was spent preparing a History, Survey and Ecology Report for the project. This information, as well as conceptual and alternate alignments and cost estimates are required by the Georgia Department of Transportation since the project is slated for state and/or federal funding to assist with construction costs.
Provided below are answers to some commonly asked questions regarding the project.
How long is the project? The bypass will be between 6.0 and 6.5 miles in length, depending upon the final alignment. Factors influencing final design include: impacts to properties and structures, road geometry/safety, environmental impacts, intersections, and cost.
How many lanes will the new road have? The East Fayetteville By-Pass will alternate between two and four lanes, with four lanes provided around intersections to enhance traffic flow and in sections with higher expected traffic. A landscaped median will be provided in areas with four lanes.
What will the speed limit be? The posted speed limit for the East Fayetteville By-Pass will be 45 mph.
What is the Proposed Right-of-Way width? The East Fayetteville By-Pass will have 120 ft of right-of-way. This width is needed to accommodate turn lanes and/or four-lane approaches and departures around intersections.
What is the project construction cost? The conceptual cost estimate for the East Fayetteville By-Pass is 40.2 million dollars. MY SPREADSHEET SHOWS TOTAL PROJECT COST OF $66.1 MILLION, WITH APPROXIMATELY 1/3rd FROM STATE/FEDERAL AID.
How is the project funded? The East Fayetteville By-Pass is expected to be funded partially by Fayette County’s transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) as well as state and federal funds.
What is the project schedule? The project is currently in conceptual design and GDOT approval is anticipated in late 2009. The schedule for final design, right-of-way and construction is dependent upon funding availability.
Who is the General Contractor for this project? A contractor has not yet been selected.
