This project involves two intersection improvements. The intersection of Lee's Mill Rd. at Sandy Creek Rd. and a small portion of Lake Road at its intersection with Lee's Mill Rd.
Lees Mill Road will be adjusted to align at as close to 90° as possible with Sandy Creek Road. Some new Right-of-Way and pavement will be required for this adjustment. Specific right-of-way needs will be determined as the design is finalized. This option would also include the addition of a left turn lane on Sandy Creek Road for those vehicles accessing Lee's Mill Road. This option would improve safety by increasing sight distances and providing more controlled left hand turns onto Sandy Creek Rd.
The intersection of Lake Rd. and Lee's Mill Rd. will be re-aligned so that Lake Rd. intersects with Lee's Mill Rd. at as close to 90° as possible. Some new Right-of-Way and pavement will be required for this adjustment and will once again be determined as the design process progresses. This project will improve safety by increasing sight distances in both directions.
Neither project includes traffic signals. Traffic on Lee's Mill Rd. and Lake Rd. will continue to be controlled with stop signs. The speed limit will remain as posted on all of these roads.
This project will be funded completely with Fayette County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars. The SPLOST was approved by the County citizens in 2004 and is in effect from April 2005 until March 2010. Construction is scheduled for the Spring of 2010
