This project will be constructed in conjunction with Phase II of the West Fayetteville By-Pass as the intersection is the terminating point of the North end of the By-Pass.
The project will improve safety and reduce congestion and wait time at the intersection. Safety will be improved by the proposed addition of a traffic signal and wait times while turn lanes and acceleration/deceleration lanes are anticipated to help minimize congestion. Fayette County hopes to install the mast arm type traffic signals. The speed limit will remain as posted on both of these roads.
Additional right-of way may be needed for the additional pavement associated with turn lanes. Specific right-of-way needs will be determined as the design is finalized. We anticipate acquisition of property, if necessary, to begin in 2009.
The project will be funded completely with Fayette County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars. The SPLOST was approved by the County citizens in November of 2004 and is in effect from April 2005 to March 2010. Construction is planned for the Spring of 2011.
