A stormwater drainage system (or stormwater infrastructure) is a system designed to drain rain water away from our streets, homes and businesses, then back out into the natural environment.
Stormwater drainage systems’ appearances vary greatly. Some look natural, like a ditch, while others look man-made, like a catch basin.
Certain systems, such as a roadway gutter leading to a concrete flume, are simple and easy to identify. Other systems, for instance, large systems of underground pipes, are complex and invisible to the untrained eye.
Despite how different these systems may appear, they all serve to protect our roads, homes, environment and drinking water by ensuring that rain water is re-directed safely.
