Internet Use Policies
General Information on Internet Access
Welcome to the Fayette County Public Library's Internet access service
policy page.
We are affiliated with the Flint River Regional Library System.
Please be advised that not all sources on the Internet provide information
which is accurate, complete, current, or appropriate. Users should evaluate
Internet sources just as they do printed publications.
Look critically at the validity and accuracy of the information retrieved
from Internet sites. Furthermore, while the Internet offers global information
access, some information is still found more quickly and efficiently
in print sources in the library.
Please help us make Internet access at the Fayette County Public Library a
success.
- Priority for use of Internet computers will be given to educational
and research applications.
- No Chat rooms.
- No games allowed. This rule is intended to protect the integrity
of the network from unauthorized downloads and to keep focus on educational
and research Internet applications in the library.
- Use by commercial companies is prohibited.
- Users have a time limit of one hour per session for a maximum of two sessions per day. This limit exists to allow all patrons an opportunity to use the Internet.

Responsibilities of Users
Users have an obligation to access the Internet in a responsible and
informed way, conforming to network etiquette and courtesies. Users should
abide by the rules and limitations of systems offering access to information
over the Internet.
Copyright and licensing agreements must always be respected.
Logoff a remote computer system when finished. Maintaining a connection
that is not actively being used may prevent others from connecting to
that system.
Users may print information from the Internet. Charges for prints are 15 cents per page. Users pay for copies at the vending device. Users are responsible for payment for all pages printe
Downloaded files may contain a virus and should be virus-checked before
use on other computers. The Fayette County Public Library is not responsible
for damage to an Internet user's disk or computer or for any loss of
data, damage or liability that may occur from use of the library's Internet
computers.
Users may print information from the Internet. Charges for printouts

Users are responsible for payment for all pages printed.

Because the Internet is a global system with information from various
sources, including corporations, foundations, organizations and individuals,
the library is not responsible for the content or accuracy of the information
on the Internet or the statements, views and opinions expressed there.
Users should evaluate the validity of information accessed. Some material
may be offensive to some people and inappropriate for viewing by children.
Because the library is a public place, library staff members have the
authority to end an Internet session deemed inappropriate for viewing
in a public setting.
Children under the age of 14 are required to access the Internet with
the permission and supervision of their parents or guardians.
Georgia Computer Systems
Protection Act
The library is under the jurisdiction of the Georgia Computer Systems
Protection Act, signed into law in 1991 and amended in 1996, which establishes
certain acts involving computer fraud or abuse as crimes punishable by
defined fines or imprisonment or both.
This includes such acts as:
- causing a computer or computer network to stop performing computer
operations;
- obstructing, interrupting, or causing a computer, computer network,
computer program, or data to malfunction;
- putting false information into a computer;
- using a computer or computer network without authority with the intention
of taking the property of another;
- deleting or in any way removing, either temporarily or permanently,
any computer program or data from a computer or computer network;
- using a computer network with the intention of examining any employment,
medical, salary, credit, or any other financial or personal data relating
to any other person without authority;
- disclosing a number, code, password, or other means of access to
a computer or computer network without authority and which results
in damages to the owner of the computer or computer network.
Persons who violate any of the above may be sued for damages and cost
of the suit. Criminal penalties may include a fine, imprisonment or both.
