The Bureau of Fire Prevention is responsible for:

  • Annual business inspections
  • Maintaining hydrant records
  • Reviewing new construction and renovation plans for commercial buildings
  • Coordinating the fire safety education program
  • Investigating the cause of all fires
  • Conducting arson investigations

Additionally, the Bureau of Fire Prevention manages the department's information records system and issues permits for:

  • Outdoor burning
  • Blasting
  • Fireworks displays
  • Underground and aboveground storage tanks
  • Flammable liquid storage
  • Fire safety compliance
  • Fire Protection Systems (Fire sprinklers/alarms)

Construction Plans Review Requirements

FOR PROJECTS IN UNINCORPORATED FAYETTE COUNTY:

Construction drawing plans shall be submitted to the Fayette County Fire Marshal’s Office via Fayette County’s SAGES account at SAGESGOV.COM            

If assistance is required in setting up a SAGES account, please contact Fayette County Department of Building Safety at 770-305-5403

Applicants shall provide necessary information on construction documents with sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of relevant laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations applicable to Fayette County Georgia.

FOR PROJECTS IN THE TOWN OF TYRONE:

FIRE MARSHAL SUBMITTAL FORM

Plans for projects in Tyrone, Georgia should be emailed to firemarshal@fayettecountyga.gov along with the above Construction Plans Submittal Form.

Once plans are reviewed and the fee has been paid, the Fire Marshal stamped plans will be emailed back to the primary contact and forwarded to the Town of Tyrone.

Construction plan documents should include:

  • A complete set of construction drawings including site plan, with Architect/Engineer Signed/Sealed stamp required.
  • Architectural drawings- Life Safety Plan(s), floor plan(s), elevation(s), electrical and mechanical plan(s), and plumbing plan(s). Construction type by International Building Code and building square footage shall be noted.
  • Site plan which indicates the building location, existing and proposed utility placements/connections, fire hydrant(s), fire department connections, water main, electricity, natural gas or others. Existing buildings which may already be on a given site need to be indicated with distance measurements to any new proposed buildings.
      1. Fire hydrant placement at 400 feet intervals on Commercial development.
      2. Fire hydrant placement at 600 feet intervals on Residential development.
      3. Sprinkled buildings shall have the fire department connections for each sprinkler or standpipe system located not more than 100 feet from the nearest fire hydrant connected to an approved water supply. *Fayette County Fire uses a 4-inch Storz connection for all new fire department connections. This connection should come off a 90-degree elbow to a 30-degree downturn*

Construction plans are reviewed for compliance with various state and local codes which include: NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code, and Title 25 (SFMO Rules & Regulations 120...).

*With the above information included, the plan review process will begin when the plans are submitted to this office. The plan review fee is $0.15 cents per square foot plus a $100.00 Certificate of Fire Safety Compliance fee for each tenant space. A separate fee of $100.00 is charged for the installation of Fire Suppression Systems and Fire Alarm Systems*
