Services

Borrowing Materials

Nearly all of our materials are available to be checked out for an initial period of two weeks. A PINES library card must be provided to staff or scanned at a self-checkout machine. After check out, a receipt is provided which lists each borrowed item and the due date. Reference items, newspapers, and magazines cannot be checked out.

Renewals

Most items can be renewed for two additional weeks with two renewals available. Materials may be renewed over the phone, through the PINES app, or using your online PINES account. If a hold has been placed on an item, another person is waiting on it to be returned and it cannot be renewed.

To log in to your PINES account through the app or online, enter the 14-digit number on the front of your library card as the username and the last four digits of your phone number as the password/pin. Once logged in, select "Items Checked Out" and renew the items of your choice. If you have already renewed twice, or if there is a hold on the item, you will not be allowed to renew.

Fines and Fees

Items that are not returned on time will accrue a $.20 fine each day that it is overdue. The library gives a one-day grace period for overdue materials (ie. your book was due yesterday but was checked in today).

If a book is lost or damaged, replacement fees are assessed. Replacement costs include the price of the book, a $10.00 processing fee, and any accrued overdue fines.

All payments must be made at the front desk of the library using cash, card, or check. All card payments will include an additional processing fee. Checks should be made out to the Fayette County Public Library.

Holds

Library card holders may request most books and audiovisual materials owned by other PINES libraries throughout the state. Items placed on hold will be delivered via courier from the owning library to the desired pickup library.

When the hold is available for pickup, the card holder will be notified via the preferred contact method on file.
Once items arrive, they will be available for pick up for one week before the hold expires.

Holds can be placed through the PINES app, your online account, or with assistance from front desk staff in person or over the phone.

NOTE: New books are not always able to be ordered through the courier service. Each item must be checked out from its owning library within the first three months. The following three months, the item can be ordered from another library within the Flint River Regional Library System. After a six month period, items eligible for holds can be ordered from any PINES library in the state.

Curbside Service

The library's curbside service is a convenient option for those who have placed books on hold and need a quick, contact-free pickup. To use this service, simply call the library with your library card number handy. A staff member will prepare your items and place them on the designated grey shelf located on the side of the building. This efficient system ensures you can access your reserved books without the need to enter the library, making it both a time-saving and convenient solution.

Computer & Internet

The Fayette County Public Library's internet access service is affiliated with the Flint River Regional Library System. The following policies apply for internet access provided by the library:
