Fayette County Proclaims April 2026 as Safe Digging Month
Fayette County, GA — Fayette County Fire and EMS personnel along with Fayette County Environmental Management, the Fayette County Road Department, and the Fayette County Utility Coordination Committee (UCC), gathered at the Fayette County Fire and EMS Headquarters to declare April as Safe Digging Month.
Assistant Chief Scott Roberts presented the proclamation on behalf of Fire Chief Jeffery Hill, who was attending training.
"I'm always happy to help when it comes to conveying safety‑conscious information," Chief Hill said.
Safe Digging Month reinforces the county’s ongoing commitment to public safety and damage prevention. Hitting underground utility lines can lead to injuries, outages, environmental damage, and costly repairs.
Even shallow digging, just a few inches deep, can strike utility lines, underscoring the need to call before every dig. Always call 811 before any digging—whether you're installing a mailbox, planting, or using heavy machinery.
The public is encouraged to call 811 before digging, helping prevent injury, service disruptions, and damage to critical underground utilities.
