COUNTY LIBRARY FORGIVES OVERDUE LATES FEES, ENCOURAGES LIBRARY CARD SIGN-UP
FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. - The Fayette County Public Library is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month throughout September, encouraging residents to explore the many benefits of owning a library card. A card provides free access to a statewide network of more than 300 participating public libraries, an 11‑million‑item shared collection with free delivery, and complimentary passes to Georgia state parks and cultural attractions.
Library Director Michelle Bennett‑Copeland said the monthlong event is an opportunity for the community to reconnect with all the resources the library offers. “A library card opens the door to lifelong learning, creativity and connection,” Bennett‑Copeland said. “We want every resident to know that the library is here to support them with free tools, services and experiences.”
Residents who do not already have a library card are encouraged to sign up during September.
The library is also offering a special incentive for current cardholders. From Sept. 1–30, the Fayette County Public Library will grant amnesty for overdue late fees of $10 or less. The forgiveness applies only to overdue fines, and patrons may visit the library to clear qualifying fees and start the season with a clean slate.
Bennett‑Copeland said the goal is to make the library welcoming and accessible for everyone. “Library Card Sign-Up Month is the perfect time to get involved, renew your connection with the library and take advantage of the many free resources available to all,” she said.
