Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services Invites Community to Blood Drives Supporting Pre-Hospital Transfusion Program

Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services is asking residents to roll up their sleeves at two upcoming blood drives that will help keep its Pre-Hospital Blood Transfusion Program stocked and ready to save lives.
The blood drives will be held Oct. 12 and Oct. 19 behind Fire Headquarters, 140 Stonewall Ave. 8:30 AM - 2 PM.
Donations collected at the events directly support the department's Pre-Hospital Blood Transfusion Program, which allows crews to provide critical care when seconds matter most.
The program became operational Aug. 25, 2025. Squad-2 and Squad-10 are equipped with blood products that can be administered on scene when a patient's condition demands it. Critically injured patients no longer have to wait until they reach a trauma center to receive a transfusion, care that often makes the difference between life and death.
With transport times to the nearest trauma centers ranging from 30 to 45 minutes, the ability to begin transfusions in the field can have a profound effect on survival outcomes in Fayette County.
Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services was the first department in Georgia EMS Region 4, a 12-county area, to implement the program. It remains one of only a handful of agencies statewide to offer pre-hospital transfusions.
Residents of all walks of life are encouraged to give. A single donation can help patients in the back of an ambulance, on the side of a roadway or at the scene of an emergency right here in Fayette County.
